International Thalassaemia Day 2020

International Thalassaemia Day 2020 is commemorated on May 8th of every year and is a blood disorder that is passed down through families (inherited) in which the body makes an abnormal form or inadequate amount of haemoglobin (the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen).

The disorder results in large numbers of red blood cells being destroyed, which leads to anaemia. This year’s theme “The Dawning of a New Era for Thalassaemia: Time for a Global Effort to make Novel Therapies Accessible and Affordable to Patients”. The mission is focused on enhancing lives and exceeding expectations for patients living with Thalassaemia across the world.
