If healthcare expenditure continues to outpace broader economic growth as it has done over the past 50 years, healthcare will grow to become the largest economic problem for most of the advanced world. As an example, at the current pace of growth, by 2080, Switzerland and the United States will devote more than half of their GDP to healthcare—and by 2100 most other OECD countries will reach this level of spending.
